How Wellback Works

The flow from out-of-office to organized return.

Three roles: You're A going OOO. Your teammate is B who needs stuff from you. Your helper is C (chaperone) who can help while you're away.

The flow: B flags items → C gets notified to help → 1 day before return, B confirms which items are still needed → A returns to remaining queue.

Step 1

Set Your PTO

When you're planning time off, tell Wellback:

/wellback pto set 2026-04-10 2026-04-15

Then assign a chaperone — a teammate who can help handle items while you're away:

/wellback chaperone @colleague

Your chaperone gets notified when B flags items for you, so they can help out.

Step 2

B Flags Items

While you're away, B can queue items for your return:

/wellback flag @you Please review the Q1 report when back - high

/wellback flag @you The client needs a response, can you handle? - medium

/wellback flag @you FYI: the deployment went smoothly - low

Your chaperone immediately gets a DM asking if they can help.

Any team member can mention you in a channel — Wellback auto-queues the message and notifies your chaperone.

What happens if someone @mentions an OOO user in a channel:
  • Wellback automatically queues their message
  • They get a DM: "Hey! @user is currently out of office. I've queued your message for when they return."
  • The chaperone also gets notified and can help

Each flag has a priority:

  • low: Nice to handle when back
  • medium: Should address in first day
  • high: Important, handle soon
  • emergency: Critical, handle immediately

The message is encrypted and stored securely until you return.

Step 3

1 Day Before Return

Wellback checks in with each person who flagged items. They'll get a DM asking if they still need these items:

Hey! @you returns tomorrow. Do you still need these items?

1. Please review the Q1 report when back
2. The client needs a response

Reply with item numbers to dismiss (e.g., "1, 3") or "all" to dismiss everything.

If the chaperone already handled something, just dismiss it. No need to keep it in the queue.

Step 4

Return and Conquer the Queue

On your return date, Wellback sends you a direct message with your sorted queue:

👋 Welcome back! You have 3 items waiting:

• [1] high: Please review the Q1 report when back
• [2] medium: The client needs a response
• [3] low: FYI: the deployment went smoothly

You can also check your queue anytime:

/wellback queue

To clear items:

/wellback done 1
/wellback snooze 1
